4 day Urdu Ghar Literary Festival
via Zamurrad Mughal
The Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu (Hind) and the Ghalib Institute, New Delhi, are organising a four-day urdu ghar literary festival from 15-18 March 2018 at the Ghalib Auditorium, New Delhi, on the subject: Two Centuries of Urdu Writings on History, Nation and Culture 1900–1917.
The focus of the seminar will be on examining and analysing with reference to colonial-post-colonial discourse that has dominated Urdu and in fact all Indian literatures over the last two centuries. The concepts which prevailed literary discourse and analysis before 1800 had their foundation in Indian and Perso Arabic consciousness.
All these considerations came under serious challenge under colonialism and the resultant discourse.
A galaxy of eminent academics will participate in the seminar and we hope that new debates will emerge in the discourse of Urdu literature which unfortunately has been rather static in the last few decades.
The eminent Urdu writer Shamsur Rahman Faruqi will deliver the keynote address and the eminent scholar Professor Harish Trivedi will deliver the valedictory address.
More information about the participants and the themes of their presentations will be conveyed to you soon and for that we need your consent and email address for this purpose.
Cultural programmes will be organised on all four days, which will include Dastan recitation by Mahmood Farooqui, a ghazal evening by Radhika Chopra, a play by Dr M. Sayeed Alam and qawwali by Sabri brothers.
